Morphology and viability of isolated islets. Morphology and viability of isolated islets were evaluated. Islets isolated from both groups (whole pancreas or tail/body only) had healthy capsules and stained deep red with dithizone, which binds to insulin within the islet (top row). Islets were co-stained with a live (green fluorescence) and dead (red fluorescence) stain (bottom row). Islets showed strong green fluorescence and sparse red fluorescence, indicating highly viable islets. Scale bars = 200 μm
